"ModerateSloth" (moderatesloth)

I am currently on the verge of Factory Five's Cobra replica kits but there is one thing that I am struggling with and that is color choice. While I still have a a long time before I make a final decision on the matter, I have come to think that it could possibly be the most important decision that I am going to make and everything I have seen online and in person really hasn't "hit the nail on the head" so to speak. So, oppo, what are your favorite AC Cobra color schemes? Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure how in-depth you can go with the paint scheme, but I've always loved how this looks.

I'd go nuts with a lime green or orange or purple.

I haven't logged in to comment in a while, but tis a subject near and dear. You've already joined ffcars.com, yes?
There are subforums with nothing but all the members purple cars, blue cars, silver cars, etc. Guys will give you their paint codes, tips, and tricks. Should definitely be your first stop.
Where have all the lightweights gone?

I've always been fond of this color combo on cars Shelby has been involved with. It looks good on the GT350, Ford GT, and I think it looks good here, too.

Post up an article about the build and process when you get there!

It's a great resource, but a huge time drain!
What are you planning for your build?
289/302 v. 427 v. Coyote etc.?
pin drive width or regular?
IRS or 3-link?

I'm planning on going with the IRS. From what I have read online it seems that would better suit my needs as it's primarily going to be a cruiser and I'd like a nice ride; I'm not planning on tracking it or anything like that. For the Pin Drive vs. the standard I really like the original style wheels (knock-offs) so I'll probably go with the pin drive IRS. As for the power plant, I'm sort of undecided. I'd like to plop a 427 in it but I don't know if that will be in the budget. What are your recommendations? Also have you heard anything/been to the Factory Five build school?

I have a Mk2 with a 302 and IRS. It is very nicely balanced with the light engine. It's really a "mid-engine" since the mounts are so far back in the bay. I can't say anything bad about the 427, because I have no experience. ffcars can give you a huge range of opinions. The body is from the 427, so for greater period-correctness, that is probably the way to go. With the 302 and 3.73 gearset, there is plenty of kick and I don't feel like I need the big block.
IRS is great, but again I don't actually have any experience with the 3-link. Depending on what area you are in, when you join ffcars, ask if you can visit someone nearby. Go for rides in each type (big/small block; IRS/3-link/4-link/Watts, whatever) and check everything out - original seats vs. modern vs. aluminum buckets, etc.
I found a set of pin drive standard width wheels, so I'm running those with Goodyear Billboards. So. Much. Because. Racecar. with the knock-offs. I love the look.
Haven't been to build school because I bought third-hand but with only about 1500 miles on it. So mostly new, but totally done. I wanted to drive, not build. That said, build school looks awesome. If I was building, I'd go.

Ya, doing some ride alongs would probably be a good idea. If you don't mind me asking - do have any pics of yours?

I do but Kinja hates me. Can you check my comment history, I've posted pics in the past. Most recently was for Montego Man a few months ago. Mine is light blue, with dark blue stripes.
There's also a few videos, but again ... Kinja.
I'll try to get you some SR20 tonight.

Let's try this - should be a pic in the garage sitting on the billboards.

Thanks! I really like it too - there's a big debate over stripes/no stripes on the boards. I wanted stripes but didn't want to go with the standard wimbledon white over guardsman blue. This was a great compromise for me, personally.
Here's two outside pics:

Looks even better in the sunlight! I like the darker blue over the lighter shade, makes for a nice contrast. The lighter shade remindes me of my old man's '64 Vette. I think it's officially called "Yorktown blue" but I could be wrong. In any case I probably will stray away from the light blues, although I personally think it looks better on your car than on the Vette. The body lines seem complement it better on yours in my opinion.

Thanks for the kind words - I drove it into the backyard last summer for an impromptu photo shoot with my potato before I put the real knock-offs and billboards on.
Pops has a beautiful car. A friend's dad had a '66 in the same color when we were growing up in the 80s - always been a big fan.
What color are you leaning towards?

REALLY want one of these. Can't afford for it to be my only car and can't afford two cars. It's a conundrum.

I'm really drawn to this grey and red combination. I think it would serve to be quite the head-turner

Fantastic choice, especially with the colored centers on the wheels. You can always add rookie stripes for an additional splash of color, too.

Hi! Just thought I would give you a quick update: pulled the trigger on the kit last night and will probably take delivery in early May...little nervous but I can't wait to have it in my garage.
